Still MORE about the endless Saga That IS This Street’s Parking

Oy Veh!!!!!!

Seems I’ve opened a minor can of würms with this whole parking thing …
Here’s the recent email from Joan, in answer to an earlier one from me, and Dave, one of my neighbours who’ also concerned about this.   It does answer a few questions about the situation, but does raise others.   Like why on EARTH was Rollason Way opened to tenants and buyers, when it hadn’t been finished?   And before Brentwood Council could put in any restrictions, however efficient they could be?

And it still doesn’t tell us why Circle Anglia didn’t have some sort of permit scheme put in place for when they started putting me, Claire, Lynn, Debs, Paul, and the rest of us tenants in place.   After all, if Joan is to be believed, the roads are still currently under the auspices of the developers, Crest Nicholson.   The actual car-parks next to each block of flats, are, going by the emails Dave’s had from CN, are run by Circle Anglia.   You’d think a residents permit scheme of some sort would be in order, wouldn’t you?

And how come Joan didn’t know that whilst publishing a public email address on this blog is one thing, putting a private one is another.   Minor bit of netiquette I had to ask around about …

But, here, feel free to read what I’ve got.   And I’d appreciate people commenting on the blog, itself, thank you.

I said I would come back with an update after speaking with the highways officers.  Rollason Way as we know is currently owned by Crest Nicholson and apparently as it belongs to them they can do anything they want to, hence they painted the yellow lines to stop residents parking because the construction traffic could not get through to the end of the road and was holding up construction.  This had nothing to do with the Council as Crest can do anything they like on their property (so I am told) but there is a 106 agreement whereby Crest have legally put aside a bit of money for a parking management scheme when the road is finished.  As you know Rollason Way is not yet finished it not having the proper surface.  When construction is finished and the surface tarmac’d to a proper standard and the road adopted they can put in a parking management scheme.  As to what that scheme  might be will be in the hands of the residents.  The council will never impose a scheme that is against all the wishes of residents.  I have asked that this and St James’ Road be put on the agenda for the next highways panel in the hope that a consultation on Rollason Way can start before the road is adopted so that residents have their say in what they would like to see put in place.

What residents need to bear in mind is that they would want to deter commuters but want sufficient on street parking to go someway to alleviate the problem.  There would also need to be some junction protection put in place to ensure safety.

You have my email address which I have said you can put on the blog so anyone with constructive ideas please do get in touch and these will be passed on to the Highways department for consideration.  You must also realize that whatever scheme we go ahead with at the end of the day will not satisfy everyone and some people will be disappointed.  If residents  want to have their say then urgent them to get in touch.

Many thanks

Joan
