L'énigme quotidienne …

You know, I wish I knew how reliable that online translator was.   It’s telling me “L'énigme quotidienne” is the French phrase for “The Daily Teaser”, but …

Either way, it’s very appropriate.   Today saw the completion of the beautification* of a very French saint, so I’ve decided to go with a French themed teaser round.

Anyway, here’s today’s questions …

Q1) April 18th saw the starting of the canonisation of which very French saint?

A1) Joan of Arc.

Q2) In which year of the 1780’s did the French Revolution start?

Q3) What’s the name of the well know annual bicycle race that goes through France?

Q4) Which iconic American statue was made in France, and given to the USA in 1886?

Q5) True or False; The Bayeaux Tapestry is a tapestry.

Q6) The current version of the French Government is what; the 4th, 5th, or 6th Republic?

Q7) Which French city is the home of denim?

Q8) In which French city was the the French national anthem — “La Marseillaise” — first heard; Marseille, Paris or Strasbourg?

Q9) What was the Roman Empire’s name for what is now France?

Q10) True or False; in France, it’s illegal to name a pig Napoleon.

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answer …

Q1) Today in 1969 saw Sirhan Sirhan convicted of killing which member of the Kennedy clan?

A1) Robert Kennedy.

Q2) Today in 1924 saw the founding of which Hollywood Studio; MGM, Universal, or 20th Century Fox?

A2) MGM.

Q3) April 17th, 1970, saw the safe return of which Apollo mission?  (We’ve all seen the movie …)

A3) Apollo 13.

Q4) April 17th, 1974 saw the birth of which member of the Spice Girls?

A4) Victoria Beckham.   (Posh Spice.)

Q5) And finally … yesterday in 1960 saw the death of which rocker; Eddie Cochrane, Bill Haley, or Gene Vincent?

A5) Eddie Cochrane.

Enjoy them.

* Yes, I know that’s not reflected in the question itself, but these are written as pub quiz questions; something I’ve found is that keeping them simple is the best way to provide as many people as possible a chance to at least guess at the answer.
