The Daily Teaser …

I’ve got to admit, I’m having a little bit of an early start, today.

Long story, but basically, Allison and I are off to Romford, today.

Let’s move on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor scoring 6 out of 6, and putting in some fantastic quotes from the late Ian Dury: possibly one of Britain’s best songwriter’s of the last 3 decade’s, but I know that one’s up for discussion!

Let’s see how he — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 13th May, 1846, saw the USA declare war on which country?

Q2) Four years later, 13th May, 1848, saw the first performance of which country’s national anthem?

Q3) 13th May, 1880, Thomas Edison performed the first tests on … what: electric cars, electric railways, or electric bulbs?

Q4) 13th May, 1941, saw the birth of Rock ’n’ Roll icoon, Ritchie Valens: what was his best known song?

Q5) And finally … 13th May, 1917, saw three children apparently sight apparitions of the Virgin Mary: but in which small Portugese town?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 12th May, 1941, saw the formal presentation of the Z3, world’s first programmable, automated computer. But in which country?
A1) Germany. (According to the Wikipedia entry, the Z3’s successor was refused funding as it was “strategically unimportant.” Guess who won World War 2 … ?)

Q2) 12th May, 1994, saw which Labour Party leader die in hospital, after 2 heart attacks?
A2) John Smith.

Q3) While I’m feeling political … 12th May, 1999, saw who named as the first Speaker of the Scottish Parliament?
A3) MP, David Steele.

Q4) 12th May, 1942, saw the birth of which noted polio victim?
A4) Ian Dury.

Q5) More to the point, was the name of that polio victim’s first band?
A5) Kilburn and the High Roads.

Q6) And finally … 14th May, 1959, saw the birth of actor, Ving Rhames: in which 1990 film did he play George?
A6) Jacobs Ladder.

Enjoy those, everyone. I’ll catch you later … !
