“Consider how much more you often suffer from your anger and grief, than from those very things for which you are angry and grieved.”

1. Interesting fellow. Isolated oxygen (1774); obtained water by igniting hydrogen and oxygen; made seltzer water by dissolving carbon dioxide in water. Among other things.
2. Warsaw
3. 29th sultan of Brunei
4. France
5. Derek Jacobi (I, Claudius is one of my most fav of all time. Same for the book.)

Actually, Kaiju, did i tell you I’ve both read the books, AND seen the TV series … ?

And what was amazing to me was the fact that the series has little in the way of sound effects.

And absolutely no background music … ?

It wasn’t until I saw <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDwC7YH-1jM”>this</a> scene that I noticed.

The Armada speech was made just down the road at Tilbury.

You're right! The series doesn't have sound effects or background music. Only the title theme music! And neither are missed at all. My subconscious mind remembers a full score and voluminous sound effects.

And so it goes with film well constructed with excellent writing and acting. U.S. productions would never attempt that feat.

This discussion reminds me to go retrieve the books from storage, where they've languished since my last remodeling effort. Six years ago...oops!

Since Trevor is always correct in his responses, this is three times in a row I've slipped on one response! I must take some coffee so I'm awake when the Teasers appear. Har!

...off to make some coffee...

I know exactly what you mean, Kaiju, I’m not usually awake, ’til I get me first cuppa down me neck … !

And I’ve just checked on Wikipedia, by the way: while it doesn’t say, I’m convinced that the crew behind the BBC’s version had the idea to make the series as if it were a theatrical production.

Where soundtracks are usually fairly minimal ; !!
