The Daily Teaser — 20-9-2011

Wowsa …

I’ve got to admit, BBC News 24’s JUST had a quicky.

Well …

They’ve just had a brief news article — that’s not gone up on their site, as yet, so I’ll let you read this — about a rather … ah … pricey, that’s the word … custom car.

Have you heard of the Tata Nano?

The little Indian motor is generally agreed to be the world’s cheapest car.

And I think Tata Motors managed to come up with a nice bit of advertising for the car.

I mean …

According to the FT report on the blinged put Gold Plus version of the thing… ?

It’s worth $4.68million.

Now, I don’t know how much that is in Pounds Sterling.

But it‘s hardly toe-nail clippings!

Now, that’s what I call an advert … !

Let’s get moving on, shall we … ?

Yes, lets … !

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi and Nina putting in their answers: with both bagging 7 out of 7, it ALSO saw Nina putting in a quote from a movie — and I’d love to know from which movie, Nina, as I don’t actually know the quote! — and Debbi also happening to mention these two posts about her recent convention appearances!

Let’s see how they — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video

Q1) 20th September, 2005, saw the death of Simon Wiesenthal: in which 1978 film is there a character modeled on him … ?

Q2) What was the name of that character … ?

Q3) 20th September, 1860, saw the Prince of Wales visit the USA: what was his name, when he ascended the throne of the UK … ?

Q4) 20th September, 2000, saw the HQ of MI6 attacked: apparently by the Real IRA. What nickname — according to author, John Le Carré — is given to the building?

Q5) 20th September, 1990, saw where declare its independence from Georgia … ?

Q6) And finally … 20th September, 1920, saw the founding of the Spanish Legion: was this intended as the Spanish version of the French Foreign Legion, the S. A. S. or the US Navy Seals?
And here’s yesterday’s piratical questions and answers …
Q1) 19th September is, obviously, International Talk Like A Pirate Day: which Essex town is hosting a International Talk Like A Pirate Day event?
A1) Southend on Sea.

Q2) Which notorious pirate once said “Damn ye, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, I’m a better man than all of ye milksops put together” … ?
A2) Edward Teach: better known, of course, as Blackbeard. (So called because he’d plait his beard, dip the plaits in tar and set the plaits smoldering. Or have lit fuses under his hat. Either of those, a bloodthirsty crew of maddened rum-drunk and sex-starved marauders, and a LOT of cutlasses … would have me running like billy-oh … )

Q3) Which actor is described as the patron saint of International Talk Like A Pirate Day?
A3) Robert Newton. (He used his native West Country accent playing several pirates in the course of his career.)

Q4) Which Richard Curtis penned film was loosely based on the shipboard pirate radio stations of the 1960s?
A4) The Boat That Rocked: or Pirate Radio in the US.

Q5) The Orlando Pirates FC are based in which country … ?
A5) South Africa.

Q6) Which notorious Swedish website allows for a LOT of online piracy?
A6) The Pirate Bay.

Q7) And finally … Which English naval figure was considered a pirate by Spain: and also known as El Draque?
A7) Vice-admiral Sir Francis Drake.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll catch you later …

4) Babylon-on-Thames? Is that the one?
5) South Ossetia
6) French Foreign Legion

P.S. The quote was from the "hugely successful" "blockbuster" called Cutthroat Island by a "brilliant" Finnish director, Renny Harlin. You know, the one who was married to Geena Davis? :D
