The Daily Teaser — 9-11-2012

Now, that was what I call a strange dream …

You know, how you you wake up, first thing in the morning, after having an especially vivid dream … ?

Well, that was me, today.

Lord knows what the dream was actually about: I don’t think my subconscious is much good at plotting.

But does throw up some interesting images.

Mostly some very distinct cooling towers, near the Dartford River crossing.

Going up in some huge nuclear explosions, whilst people look on in blank despair.

Yes, I know: I don’t have a clue, either … !

But I’d imaging Freud would tell me it boils down to how big my cigar is.

Yes … Let’s get moving on, shall we …

~~~~~
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbiº putting in her answers: along with telling us she’s fallen in love with Billericay* Dickie, also bagging 5 out of 6.
Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?
Here they are, along with the ‘How To’,  License and video …
Q1) 9th November saw many things happen in Germany: Kristallnacht, the Abdication of Wilhelm 2nd and the collapse of the Berlin Wall, for example.   What’s the German nickname for it: D-Day, Destiny Day or Nasty Night … ?
Q2) 9th November, 1888, saw the killing of Mary Jane Kelly, by Jack the Ripper.   Name any of the other four victims.
Q3) More to the point, which graphic novelist wrote From Hell, about the Ripper killings.
Q4) 9th November, 1967, saw the first publication of Rollin’ Stone Magazine.   What was Rollin’ Stone named after: the song by Muddy Waters, the English rock band or the song by Bob Dylan … ?
Q5) 9th November, 2005, saw the European Space Agency launch a mission to which planet … ?
Q6) And finally … 9th November saw the fall of the Berlin Wall: in which year … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 8th November, 1608, saw the Bodleian Library open to the public: at which English University … ?
A1) Oxford.
Q2) More to the point: library users are not allowed to remove anything from it, not to smoke, or make … what …?
A2) Flame or fire.
Q3) 8th November, 1605, saw the execution of Robert Catesby: what group of plotters was he the ringleader of … ?
A3) The Gunpowder plotters.
Q4) During the Russian Revolution, 8th November, 1917, saw the formation of an all-Bolshevik government of Russia, chaired by whom: Trotsky, Lenin or Stalin … ?
A4) Lenin.
Q5) 8th November, 1974, saw the police begin the hunt for whom, after they apparently committed murder, the night before … ?
A5) Lord Lucan.
Q6) And finally … 8th November, 1971, saw the release of the album, Led Zeppelin 4: which of the album’s songs is the Best selling single piece of sheet music in rock history … ?
A6) The one and only Stairway to Heaven.   (There are STILL guitar shops in London that threaten to hang any customer they catch playing it … )
Enjoy those, everyone.
As it’s the birthday of Mary Travers — Mary, from Peter, Paul and Mary — we’ll have a bit of a shift in musical direction …
And I’ll leave you with this quote from noted Republican disaster, Spiro T Agnew.
“Perhaps the place to start looking for a credibility gap is not in the offices of the Government in Washington but in the studios of the networks in New York!”
Spiro Agnew, November 9, 1918 – September 17, 1996
*        I have to admit, it’s a half hour bus-ride from my place.   And I still — after a lifetime living in Essex — STILL couldn’t swear to how to spell it … !
º        Just so you know, Debbi, Billericay Dickie, is taken from Dury’s classic first album, New Boots and Panties.   And if the US iTunes doesn’t have that available, that’s a deep injustice to the man … !   (You might ALSO want to check out the Ian Dury biopic, Sex ’n Drugs n’ Rock ’n Roll: Andy Serkis’ performance is frighteningly good!)
