The Daily Teaser — 14-12-2014

You know …

That was kind of fun …

Believe it or not, I’m talking about work, last night.

Which went quite well, it has to be said.

And saw me bagging up fries^.

OK, not very rapidly.   And only during a quiet patch.

But I got to learning something, however simple, that I can put to good use.

That — and learning how to pack — hopefully means a few extra hours.

Which is good.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: AND scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 14th December, 1962, saw the Mariner 2 spacecraft become the first probe to fly by Venus.   How many (whole) days are there, in Venus’ year: 222, 224 or 226?
Q2) Venus’ atmosphere is 96 percent what: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or hydrogen hydroxide?
Q3) 14th December, 1988, saw the first broadcasts from the ET3 TV station.   ET3 broadcast from which European country: Spain, Portugal or Greece?
Q4) 14th December, 1918, saw Prince Frederick Charles of Hesse renounce his role: as king of which European country?
Q5) 14th December, 1918, saw the assassination of Sidónio Pais: President of which country?
Q6) Finally … 14th December, 2013, saw the death of actor, Peter O’Toole.      He received his first Academy Award nomination for which 1962 film?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 13th December, 1936, saw the birth of the fourth Aga Khan, leader of a denomination of what: Shia Islam, Sunni Islam or Sufi Islam?

A1) ShiaIslam: they’re the Nizari Ismailis.
Q2) 13th December, 1577, saw Sir Francis Drake begin out on his circumnavigation of the world.   He set out from which port city?

A2) Plymouth.
Q3) 13th December is Saint Lucy’s Day.   It’s celebrated in parts of Europe: and on which Caribbean island?

A3) Appropriately, Saint Lucia.
Q4) 13th December, 1923, saw the birth of noted gangster, the late Frankie Fraser.   How many years did Mad Frankie spend in prison: 32, 42 or 52?

A4) 42‡.
Q5) Finally … 13th December, 1972, saw Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt start the last extra-vehicular activity of the Apollo 17 mission.   This meant they were the last humans to walk on what?

A5) The moon.
I’ll leave you with this tune …

And this thought …
“It’s a vicious circle. If you feel hideous, you convey it to people. A couple of male friends from university have said, ‘I quite fancied you, but I wouldn't have dared…’ and I was like, ‘Oh really?’ I was completely amazed that anyone had ever fancied me, and also that I’d obviously given an impression of ‘Don’t touch me’.”

Miranda Hart, born 14th December, 1971.
Enjoy your day …

*        Actually, Debbi, Mpeg Streamclip’s, in terms of it’s video editing functions: usually, I use the cursor keys to move the little cursor — at the bottom of the screen — around.   (Streaming†’s, technically watching stuff on YouTube, or VOD services, like Netflix.)

†        That’s a thought, Debbi: did you give any thought to getting one of Apple’s little Apple TV devices?   It can be a chore to set up and connect to your router.   But it can be set up — and used — one handedly, with the remote control it comes with.   You can stream stuff to it from your Mac: and from Vevo, iTunes, Netflix and YouTube.   I’m also aware it can stream a lot of Baseball games: although I don’t know if that will appeal.   *Wear’s completely innocent expression.*

‡        Yes, it’s the answer: but do we really understand the question … ?

^        Even though it’s got two handles, the french fry scoop we use is slightly too large for my hands.   And there’s also no other left-handers around who can show me how they use it.
