The Daily Teaser — 14-10-2015: The Battle of Hastings

Did I tell you I like doing a online shopping?

It’s really incredibly convenient.

Just recently … ?   I managed to pick up the now cancelled BBC 3 series, Mongrels: something I’d watched, originally, when it was on in 2010/11.

Personally … ?

Personally, I’m glad it’s out on DVD.

The fact it got cancelled is one hell of a shame.   Mongrels was rude: but also one of the funniest things I’ve seen!

~≈Ÿ≈~

But let’s get moving on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with both scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 14th October, 1066, was the date of the Battle of Hastings: when England was invaded by a Norman army.   The Normans were from which European country: Germany, France or Spain?
Q2) Who led the Norman forces: Louis the Killer, William the Conqueror or Franco the General?
Q3) He’s also known as what: the Bloody, the Bastard or the Bender?
Q4) The man in charge of the Norman forces was a Duke of where: Swabia, Normandy or Medina Sidonia?
Q5) The English forces were — strictly — Anglo Saxon.   And led by whom: Harold 1st, Harold 2nd or Harold 3rd?
Q6) Harold was born in a now gone part of England.   Called what: Essex, Sussex or Wessex?
Q7) The battle, itself, took place seven miles away from the town of Hastings.   Hastings is in which English county: West Sussex, East Sussex or Kent?
Q8) The Battle took place near which present day, East Sussex town?
Q9) The Abbey that commemorates the Battle has an altar on the spot where King Harold died.   Supposedly, he died after getting an arrow in his … what?
Q10) Finally … the Battle is commemorated by the Bayeux Tapestry.   Is the Tapestry a tapestry?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 13th October is the feast day of Saint Edward the Confessor, the last Anglo-Saxon King of where: England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales?

A1) England.
Q2) More to the point, Saint Edward is considered the last King of which royal house?

A2) The House of Wessex.
Q3) 13th October, 1307, saw the Knights Templar dissolved: by King Phillip 4th of where?

A3) France.
Q4) 13th October, 1773, saw astronomer, Charles Messier, discover the galaxy now called M51a.   It’s also known as what: the Eddy Galaxy, the Whirlpool Galaxy or the Mælstrom Galaxy?

Q5) A conference chose the meridian that would serve as the basis for Universal Time: on 13th October, 1884.   The meridian, famously, passes through which bit of London: Foots Cray, Greenwich or Hackney?

A5) Greenwich.
Q6) Finally … Fiji joined the United Nations: on 13th October, 1970.   The country is in which ocean: the Atlantic, Pacific or Indian?

A6) The Pacific.
I’ll leave you with this …
“That fatal day for England, the sad destruction of our dear country,”

William of Malmesbury, On The Battle of Hastings.
And this …

Have a good day: don’t get trampled on by Normans … !

*        Yeah, I think Olga would’ve had an advantage on that one, Debbi!   (Oh, did I send you the OSX keyboard shortcuts?   Usually, putting a tilde over a letter just means hitting ⌥ and ‘n’: then pressing the appropriate letter: at least on UK keyboards.)

†        It’s a good little browser, Olga: I prefer Safari, the Mac’s default browser, but Chrome’s usually quite zippy.   But I was thinking it’s more Goggle’s end of the process: rather than ours.   The cannabis is an on-going thing.   I’m fairly liberal, but if someone’s making my flat smell … ?   Not good!   Not singing … ?   Is possibly Sensible …
