The Daily Teaser — 28-12-2015: Neptune

Right …

It is — as far as I’m concerned — the end of Christmas.

Yes, I know we’ve got until Epiphany, on January 5th.

It’s not officially over, until then.

But … ?

I’m having the last of my few days off, today: AND opening the last of my presents.

Yes … tickets to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Don’t say anything: I’d rather not see spoilers!!

~≈ß≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Neptunian questions, shall we?

Here they are, allow with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 28th December, 1612, saw the first observations of the planet Neptune.   By which Italian astronomer?
Q2) What did he think Neptune was: a fixed star, a planet or a comet?
Q3) The discovery of Neptune is generally credited to which Frenchman?
Q4) The planet is named after Neptune: the Roman god of what?
Q5) At the time of writing, Neptune has how many known moons?
Q6) What’s the largest of those moons?
Q7) Finally … How long does Neptune take to complete one orbit of the Sun: 164.8 years, 264.8 years or 364.8 years?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 27th December, 1977, saw the original version of Star Wars debut in the UK.   What’s the new Star Wars movie called?
.
Q2) Eight people were killed, in England’s worst avalanche: on the 27th December, 1836.   The avalanche was in which Sussex town?
A2) Lewes.
Q3) Jana Gana Mana is sung on the 27th December, 1911: for the first time.   Which country’s national anthem is it?
A3) India’s.
Q4) 27th December, 1966, saw the discovery of the Cave of Swallows: in Mexico.   Name either of the species that make up most of the cave’s bird population.
A4) White Collared Swifts or Green Parakeets.
Q5) Finally … 27th December, 1901, saw the birth of comedy actress, Irene Handl.   In which Peter Sellers film did she play Mrs Kite?
.
I’ll leave you with these words …
“If the Sun were as tall as a typical front door, the Earth would be the size of a nickel and Neptune would be about as big as a baseball.”

From NASA’s Neptune: An Overview.
And this tune …

Have a good day!

*        I generally don’t post them up, Olga: I’ve heard the stories, as well!   But, as far as I can tell, it’s a legitimate Fair Use use … if you’ll forgive the over-use of ‘use.’   And yes, as far as I know, the same sort of rules apply to reviews of films and TV shows, as for books.   Copyright rules are bonkers!

†        That is bonkers, Debbi!   Copyright is bloody complicated!   (And, yes, she was good!   River and the 12th Doctor have a very different dynamic, don’t they?   Very different to her and 11.   Oh, did you notice the references to a picnic in Asgard?   Think we’ve got ONE more River Song story to come, but I could be wrong …)
