The Daily Teaser — 24-3-2016

Well, FINALLY … !

I had yesterday off.

Which sounds strange, I know.

But … ?

Well, frankly, it let me do some housework: Handy, that.

Oh, and do my usual thing: posting up three posts for the Gazette.

And finally … ?

Well, finally, managing to catch Steve Jobs.

Thank heavens I did.

It’s a great film.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi scoring four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) Nightfall, on the 24th March, 2016, sees the end of the Feast of Purim.   Which religion marks Purim?
Q2) It’s initially mentioned in which book of the Old Testament?
Q3) The Exxon Valdez crashed, on 24th March, 1989.   Off the coast of which US state?
Q4) 24th March, 2015, saw Germanwings Flight 9525 crash.   Where: the French Alps, German Alps or Austria Alps?
Q5) 24th March, 1887, saw the birth of Roscoe ‘Fatty’ Arbuckle.   Notoriously, he was a defendant in the rape and murder trial of whom?
Q6) Finally … J. S. Bach dedicated six pieces of music to Margrave Christian Ludwig: on 24th March, 1721.   These pieces are now, collectively called what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 23rd March, 1935, saw the birth of writer, Barry Cryer.   Famously, he appears in which Radio 4 comedy show?
Q2) 23rd March is World Meteorological Day: as organised by the World Meteorological Organization, the UN’s Weather experts.   What’s the name of the UK’s weather office?
A2) The Met Office: formerly known as the Meteorological Office.
Q3) 23rd March, 1868, saw the founding of the University of California.   Name one any of its ten campuses.
A3) UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz, Riverside or UC Merced.   (Apparently, UC Merced is the most recently created campus.   With 42, 239 students, UCLA has the largest student body: insert your own joke, here.   UC Berkeley is the home of BSD — Berkeley Standard Distribution — Unix: the baseline version of Unix that others are built on.)
Q4) 23rd March, 1775, saw Patrick Henry delver one of the speeches or the US War of Independence.   Famously, he said “Give me liberty or give me …” what?
A4) Death.   (Personally … ?   I’ll have a halfway decent steak …)
Q5) Finally … 23rd March, 1801, saw the death — by assassination — of Paul 1st of where: Greece, Russia or Bulgaria?
A5) Russia.   (Seemingly, the assassins stabbed him: then strangled him, and trampled him.   I get the feeling he wasn’t popular …)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“When people come up to me in the street they’re always very nice. They lean over and say: ‘I do like your lemon drizzle cake.’”
Mary Berry, born 24 March 1935.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        You’re right, there, Olga: I think we’ll have to keep our eyes on the news.   (Oh, about Paul 1st?   I get the feeling he wasn’t popular … !   I keep thinking of Rasputin: poisoned, shot several times, then chucked into a frozen over river …)

†        Oh, technology doesn’t roll, Debbi: it jogs along at a rate of knots … !   Umm … At any rate, I managed to catch Steve Jobs, last night: it’s rather good.   (Oh, You’ll Have Had Your Tea is a spin off from Clue …)
