Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-9-2016

Yay …

I’ve got another interview, today!

And another one on Wednesday!

But you already knew that, didn’t you … ?

Frankly?

Frankly, I’m looking forward to both.

But right here, and now?

Right here and now, I’ve got the feeling that I’m in for the long, slow slog.

Most of the interviews I’ve had?   Have been as a result of the initial rush of running around, posting CVs through doors.

That’s slowing down: money’s obviously shorter than it was.

Right now?

‘Slog,’ is about the size of it.

Which reminds me …

A couple of potential employers — Sainsburys and Aldi are the two big offenders, off the top of my head — use various shades of online testing.

Those two spring to mind as they use similar ones.

Basically?   They give you four options: you have to pick the best choice, and the worst.

Apparently?

I did badly on both: and got told I’d not be taken through to the next stage: that of an interview.

I can understand why companies do it: they want to filter out no hopers.

But … ?

Frankly, it’s depressing: and gets me wondering if there’s anywhere online I can practice these things.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi scoring four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Concorde made its first non-stop transatlantic flight: on 26th September of which year?
Q2) More to the point: was that a French or English Concorde?
Q3) Indonesia was admitted to the UN: on 26th September, 1950.   What’s Indonesia’s capital city?
Q4) 26th September, 1493, saw Alexander 6th issue a Papal Bull: allowing Isabella and Ferdinand to colonize parts of the New World.   Which of the monarchs ruled what we now call Castile?
Q5) Which US commission was first set up: in a US act what went into force on 26th September, 1914?
Q6) Finally … 26th September, 1917, saw the start of the Battle of Polygon Wood.   The Battle took place in which European country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 25th September, 1066, was the date of the Battle of Stamford Bridge.   The Battle marked the last invasion of  England.   By whom: Germans, Vikings or knotweed?
A1) Vikings.
Q2) England and Scotland signed the treaty that defined their common border: on 25th September, 1237.   That Treaty was the Treaty of where: York, Arbroath or Cardiff?
A2) York.
Q3) In the UK, 25th September, 2003, saw the end of the enquiry stage: of the Hutton Enquiry.   The Enquiry was enquiring into whose death?
A3) Dr David Kelly.
Q4) Thirty-eight prisoners escaped from the Maze Prison: on 25th September, 1983.   The Maze was in which country of the UK: Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales?
Q5) Finally … British forces withdrew from Arnhem, on the night of the 25th September, 1944: marking an end to the Battle of Arnhem.   The Battle was in which European country?
A5) The Netherlands.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“The years between fifty and seventy are the hardest. You are always being asked to do more, and you are not yet decrepit enough to turn them down.”
TS Eliot, 26 September 1888 – 4 January 1965.
And, given it’s Bryan Ferry’s birthday …

Have a good day.

Don’t get scared by eyeballs …

*        I’ve managed to read up on La Mercè, Olga: sounds like one hell of a do!   Those giant models look vaguely familiar.   I know I’ve seen something like them … believe it or not, in Moonraker … !   At ANY rate … ?   Here’s hoping today’s interview goes well!

†        One of these days, Debbi someone will come up with a treatment for it!   At any rate, wish me luck for today’s interview!   (Yeah: i USUALLY try not to repeat a question, but occasionally, one slips through … !)

I was intrigued by those tests you mentioned, Paul. It seems they are pretty standard https://www.wikijob.co.uk/content/aptitude-tests/test-types/situational-judgement-test

I've found a website that mentions free test but then it mentions a price so I think it might be a way of getting people to buy... http://www.practiceaptitudetests.com/top-employer-profiles/sainsburys-assessments/
Good luck!
