Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-12-2017: The Feast Of Stephen

Well, that’s Christmas done.

For, at least, another year.

At least, that’s the present opening, frayed tempers and smashed plates, done.

Until next year!

In all fairness, it wasn’t as bad as that.

Presents given and received, films watched: and Dr Who seen.

It’s all good.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi bagging ten out of ten, and Olga on eight.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Boxing Day is 26th December.   It’s ALSO know as the feast of Saint Stephen.   Which city was Stephen martyred in?
Q2) Seemingly?   Saint Stephen was a what: deacon, bishop or vicar?
Q3) What’s the only book of the Bible he’s mentioned in: the Gospel of Matthew, Revelation or the Acts of the Apostles?
Q4) The name means what: jewel, gold or crown?
Q5) Finally … How was Saint Stephen killed: by hanging, stoning or crucifixion?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 25th December is Christmas Day: marking the birth of Jesus.   His birth is known as which N?
A1) The Nativity.
Q2) In some books of the bible, Jesus is called king of the whom: Judeans, Greeks or Romans?
A2) Judeans.
Q3) The (then) King carried out the Massacre of the Innocents: to try and kill Jesus.   Who was that King?
A3) King Herod: as far as anyone can tell, the Herod in question was Herod the Great.
Q4) His birth is mentioned in two of the Four Gospels: name either one of the two.
A4) The Gospel of Matthew or of Luke.
Q5) The word, Christmas, is occasionally written as ‘Xmas.’   That X is based on which Greek letter?
A5) Chi.   Which looks like this: Χ.
Q6) Which city council has had to remove an exclusion from around its Christmas tree, this year: Derby, Manchester or London?
A6) Derby.
Q7) Father Christmas gives presents to nice children on Christmas night.   Which ‘K’, according to an old Austria tradition, punishes the naughty children?
A7) The Krampus.

A8) Hollywood: also known as Tinsel Town.
Q9) London-based baker and wedding cake specialist Ted Baker, invented what Christmas item, in 1847?
A9) The Christmas cracker.
Q10) The traditional Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree is a present to the UK, from which European country?
A10) Norway.
Here’s a quote …
“You desire that which exceeds my humble powers, but I trust in the compassion and mercy of the All-powerful God.”
Attributed to Saint Stephen.
And the only song I know that mentions him …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s worth watching, Olga: Mark Hamill’s got his tongue very much in his cheek, with some of the lines … !   (Oh, for question five, yesterday?   I was after Chi: the letter, rather than the name …)

†        Embracing ALL religions, Debbi?   Always an interesting idea.   (I know Frank Herbert mentions the Orange Catholic Bible in the Dune series.)   And I have to say, Dr Who and The Las Jedi are interesting watches …

St Stephen is also celebrated here in Catalonia and in some other places in Spain, but not everywhere. It is not bad to have another day to recover, although my mother and I didn't do very Xmassy things (I hesitated about the Chi thing but eventually misread the entry).
