Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-9-2016: Lascaux

Right …

It’s Monday.

And it’s a Monday where I’m due back at my local Job Centre: for a meeting where I’ve got to take in as much ID as possible.

Frankly … ?

It’s completely understandable: especially given the amount of fraud that the government’s benefit office faces.

But, LORD, it’s frustrating.

Especially when the Job Centre now doesn’t let claimants print stuff using its facilities … !

Frustrating … ?

Doesn’t even start!

~≈†≈~

The day’s not complete doom an gloom.

Or, at least, not complete doom and gloom.

I was in Brentwood High Street, on Saturday.

Doing the usual (recent) thing: of handing out CVs, to various shops.

One of those?   Was the Brentwood branch of a noted local bookshop.

I’m going back in, today: to have a chat with the manager.

Here’s hoping something can come of it.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser say Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Cave paintings were discovered in Lascaux.   On 12th September of which year?
Q2) Lascaux, its caves and the paintings, are in France.   But in which French department: Charente, the Dordogne or Haute-Garonne?
Q3) The paintings, themselves, date to when: the monolithic, paleolithic or neolithic?
Q4) The best known of the paintings are in the Hall of the what: Bulls, Horses or Deer?
Q5) Finally … Since 1998, the caves have been plagued by fungus.   A fungus said to have been caused by what: invading ants, air-conditioning or warm weather?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 11th September, 1697, was the date of the Battle of Zenta.   Zenta is in what’s now where: Serbia, Croatia or Montenegro?
A1) Serbia.
Q2) The Marlborough Diamond was stolen: on 11th September, 1980.   The 45 carat stone was said to have what sort of value, Sterling: £300000, £400000 or £500000?
A2) £400000.
Q3) Foreign Minister, Anna Lindh, died, on 11th September, 2003: killed by a man later judge to be insane.   Ms Lindh was Foreign Minister of which country?
A3) Sweden.
Q4) How many planes did al-Qaeda hijack, for its attacks on 11th September, 2001?
A4) Four.   Two were flown into the Twin towers, a third into the Pentagon, whilst the fourth crashed into a field in Pennsylvania: after the hijackers attempted to crash it in Washington DC.
Q5) Finally … Janet Parker died on 11th September, 1978.   She’s the last person on record, to have died from what?
A5) Smallpox.
I’ll leave you with this …
“To reach the farthest chamber of Lascaux, it’s likely a man had to snuff out his light, lower himself down a shaft with a rope made of twisted fibers, and then rekindle his lamp in the dark so as to draw the woolly rhinoceros, the half horse, and the raging bison there.”
Jane Brox, Brilliant: The Evolution of Artificial Light.
And this song …

Enjoy your day …

*        Cheers, Olga‡: and Upwork sounds like another good idea … or, at least, worth checking.

†        What I’m thinking, Debbi‡, is altering some of the Friday Question sets.   I’ve an idea in mind …

‡        What I’m thinking is still publishing the free versions here: they’d only have Wikipedia links for the General Knowledge sections.   I’m thinking that the premium — Ha! — version would be tidied up, and feature more links.

Good plans. I hope something comes out of the chat at the bookshop. Love bookshops (and might bring more ideas for quizzes).
In Spain, everybody has an ID card, so there's not an issue with proving who you are (only need paperwork the first time you have it done(I know all the arguments, but realistically speaking, unless you can afford to live completely off the radar forever, not sure where, people need paperwork, so not sure why making it more difficult on oneself helps, but hey... ) Have a good week.

Sounds like a plan. Good luck with your interviews! You would be a great bookstore employee! :)

I actually missed one yesterday! I forgot that two planes hit the towers. Duh!

I was counting sites, not airplanes. Oh, well. Serves me right for not double-checking! :)
