Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-1-2016

I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go … !

No …

That’s possibly not the best thing to start with.

I think …

I’m very aware that Britain’s Prime Minister — Theresa May — is due to meet US President, Donald Trump.

I’m …

Concerned.

I voted remain, in the Brexit referendum: feeling Britain’s place in the world was improved by having close ties with Europe.

And by keeping a certain arm’s — with apologies to US born, regular Debbi — a certain arm’s length from US policy.

Things like the Iraq War?   Were done in George’s Bush’s name, not mine.

So seeing that meeting is happening?

And, like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, before him, that we have a US president enamoured of a UK leader, but who will put US national interests above those of the UK’s … ?

Is worrying.

There’s an argument that says our membership of the EU meant handing over two much control to foreign powers.

I feel a close relationship between May and Trump?

Represents a similar issue: we’d be handing to much control to a US government.

And is unhealthy for the UK.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi scoring four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, alone with the How To, License and video …

Q1) The Paris Peace Accord went into force on 27th January, 1973.   The Accords formally ended which war?
Q2) During the Arab Spring, 27th January, 2011, saw the start of revolution: where?
Q3) Nazi death camp, Auschwitz, was liberated on 27th January, 1945.   As a result, 27th January is known as what?
Q4) James Cromwell was born on 27th January, 1940.   He played Dr Arthur Arden in Series 2 of what?
Q5) Finally … Which footballer was banned from playing: on 27th January, 1995?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 26th January is Australia Day: the country’s national day.   It marks the day when the first fleet arrived where: Botany Bay, Port Jackson or Sydney Cove?
Q2) Today is also Republic Day, in India.   It marks the day when India’s constitution when into force: in which year of the 1950s?
A2) 1950.
Q3) 26th January is ALSO the Feast Day of the Blessed Gabriele Allegra.   The Franciscan was the man who first made a complete translation of the Bible into what: Arabic, Chinese or Spanish?
A3) Chinese.
Q4) President Bill Clinton claimed not to have had sex with someone: on 26th January, 1998.   Who?
Q5) Finally … 26th January, 2016, saw the death of actor, Abe Vigoda.   In which film did he play Salvatore Tassio?   (We’re after the main film: not any of the sequels.)
A5) The Godfather.   (He crops up in a flashback in the immediate sequel, The Godfather, Pt 2)
I’ll leave you with a rhyme …
“There was once a young man of Oporta,

Who daily got shorter and shorter,

The reason he said

Was the hod on his head

Which was filled with the heaviest mortar.”
Lewis Carroll, 27 January 1832 – 14 January 1898.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        Nope … they get to phone the out-of-hours switchboard, like everyone else, Olga!   And I’ll stay feel: have a good flight back, OK … ? :D

†        You’re not wrong, there, Debbi!   (Oh, that’s a thought … Has Class been given an air date, yet?)

I voted Leave in the Brexit vote and believe that the UK is better off out of the clutches of the non elected Bureaucrats in Brussels. As to the new President of the USA I will leave it to history to judge him. It is certainly good the USA / UK get back to a better relationship then they were in with the previous President of the USA. Again I will leave history to judge the previous president.

I don't know. Don't follow that one.

1. the Vietnam War
2. Egypt
3. International Holocaust Remembrance Day
4. American Horror Story
5. Eric Cantora

PS: I take no offense whatsoever to your wanting to distance yourself from U.S. policy. Especially with that idiot Trump as president (in title, at least, if not in his actions).
