Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-7-2017

Hmmm …

You know, I’m thinking I must be having some sort of effect.

No, really.

I’ve — as you’ve possibly noticed — been posting up video for quite some time, now.

And, even more recently?

Been getting comments.

Well …

Ben getting comments on my Youtube account: along the lines “Wow, nice video: here’s a link to one of MY videos.”

It’s what’s none as Comment Spam: and is also a version of the sort of thing I’ve had for years, here on Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar.

OK …

It’s something I can deal with.

After all, both Youtube and Blogger let you moderate comments.

But, BOY, it’s a pain … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring 8 out of ten in the process.   The day also saw Olga†, looking in: and letting us know about printers.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 16th July, 1965, saw the opening of the Mont Blanc road tunnel.   The Tunnel connects France … to where: Italy, Switzerland or Germany?
Q2) Ringling Bros. & Barnaum and Bailey’s stopped playing in their Big Tops: on 16th July, 1956.   The Circus company finally closed in which year?
Q3) The Duigan Pusher biplane was tested: on 16th July, 1910.   The plane was the first built in which country?
Q4) The Chaplain-Medic massacre took place: on 16th July, 1950.   During which War: the Vietnam War, the Korean War or the Second World War?
Q5) Finally … Ruby Stevens was born: on 16th July, 1907.   She was better known as which actress?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) The Mozilla Foundation was formally established: on 15th July, 2003.   Which web-browser is Mozilla’s best known product?
A1) Firefox.
Q2) One version of that browser is set up so you can anonymously browse the web: and reach shady parts of it.   What’s that browser called?
A2) Tor: it’s short for The Onion router.
Q3) What’s Mozilla’s email client called?
Q4) Mozilla makes bug-tracking software: called what?
A4) Bugzilla.
Q5) Mozilla’s own programming language is called what: Dust, Lust or Rust?
A5) Rust.
Q6) Mozilla has abandoned its smart phone operating system.   What was that system called?
Q7) Mozilla’s products are all what: open source, closed source or soy source?
A7) Open source.   (Open source software — like Firefox, vlc and OpenOffice — let you examine, and make changes to the source code: the under-lying text that our computers run.   Closed source apps — iTunes, MS Office, what have you — don’t.   I like soy sauce on my chips.)
Q8) The Book of Mozilla is hidden in Mozilla’s browsers.   It’s what’s known as a what: Christmas box, Easter egg or Gin Fizz?
A8) Easter Egg.
Q9) Venkman is Mozilla’s Java debugger: used to correct mistakes in a Java programme.   It’s named after a character in which film: Planet of the Apes, Ghostbusters or Godzilla?
Q10) Finally … Mozilla makes a calendar app called what: Sunbird, Lyrebird or Parrot?
A10) Sunbird.
Here’s a tune …

And a thought …
“The only people who have the long view are some scientists and some science fiction writers. I have always lived in a world in which I’m just a spot in history.”
Sheri S. Tepper, July 16, 1929 – October 22, 2016.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser

Have a good day.

*        He does do rather well, Debbi, doesn’t he?   Did you see Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy?   Quite something to watch: I’ve not heard a Received Pronunciation accent like that for years.

†        It’s appreciated, Olga!   Actually, if you’re a betting woman?   I’d suggest putting your money on Kris Marshall: if anywhere’s still taking bets!   Apparently, Jodie Whittaker’s supposed to be a favourite.   I doubt it: she’s too short‡.   As for printers?   I always used an HP, myself.   And getting one with individual colour cartridges is supposed to work out greener.

‡        I’ve noticed, over the years, that the new series Doctors have all been around the six foot mark.   Which is why I Tilda Swinton would be good as the first woman cast as the Doctor: she’s 5’10”, according to her IMDb page.   Gwendoline Christie and Miranda Hart would be the right height: but both are busy.   I STILL we’re not going to see a woman cast, this time: much as I’d like to see it happen.   I’m convinced it will be Kris Marshall.
